Form detail competitors often miss: the displayed lifetime prices include a $7.50 nonrefundable application fee. To use the 2026 fee, the application must be postmarked on or before December 31, 2026.

Who Can Buy a California Lifetime Fishing License?
The applicant must qualify as a California resident when purchasing. CDFW’s general definition includes a person who has lived continuously in California for at least six months immediately before applying, a person on active United States military duty or an auxiliary branch, or a person enrolled in Job Corps.

Report Cards Can Apply Even When a Basic License Does Not
CDFW explains that required report cards can apply to children under 16, public-pier anglers and people fishing on a Free Fishing Day. Always check the species-specific rule rather than assuming a license exemption also removes the report-card requirement.
