The seven things to know before you rely on this site

1. We are an editorial guide. Not a state fish-and-wildlife agency, NOAA, or the Coast Guard.

2. We do not issue licenses or set regulations. Buy licenses and confirm rules on your state agency’s site.

3. Regulations change — sometimes mid-season. Always re-confirm before you fish.

4. We do not give safety advice. Follow Coast Guard guidance, wear a life jacket, and use good judgment.

5. Embedded videos are third-party. They belong to their official uploaders, not to us.

6. Our content is general information. The state agency’s official rules are authoritative.

7. Statutory liability is preserved. Nothing limits liability that cannot be excluded under law.

1. Nature of the Site

fishingguider.org/ is an independent editorial publisher of a U.S. fishing guide. We are NOT:

  • a state fish-and-wildlife or natural-resources agency
  • NOAA Fisheries, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, or the U.S. Coast Guard
  • a licensed fishing guide, charter operation, or outfitter
  • a license vendor or issuer
  • a boating-safety certification body
  • an attorney, law firm, or provider of legal services
  • an authorized representative or agent of any agency or guide operation

2. Not a Regulator or Guide Service

For anything specific — buying a license, confirming a season or limit, booking a guided trip, or reporting a violation — the route is your state agency, the relevant federal body, or the guide operation itself, not fishingguider.org/.

We describe fishing rules and techniques and explain the regulatory framework. We do not issue licenses, set or enforce regulations, sell trips, or certify any captain or vessel.

3. Regulations Change — Always Re-Confirm

Confirm the current rules with your state agency before every trip

Fishing regulations — open seasons, size and slot limits, bag and creel limits, gear rules, and license requirements — change frequently, and some change mid-season by emergency order to protect a fishery. A guide on our site is informational only and may not reflect a change made after our last review. The state agency’s own official page is the authoritative, current reference.

4. Not Safety Advice

Fishing and boating carry real risks — use your own judgment

Nothing on this site is safety advice. Always wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket, check the weather and water conditions, file a float plan, carry a VHF radio when boating, and never fish beyond your ability. In an emergency, call 911 and hail the Coast Guard on VHF Channel 16. Handle hooks, bait, and catch carefully.

5. Embedded Video Content

Embedded videos belong to their official uploaders, not to us

Our guides embed YouTube videos to demonstrate techniques. Those videos are the property of their respective official uploaders and are embedded via YouTube’s standard player under YouTube’s Terms of Service. We do not own, host, or re-upload them, and we are not responsible for their content, availability, or any advertising YouTube serves within them. A video may be removed or made unavailable by its uploader at any time. We verify each video at the time of embedding, but you should still confirm any technique against current, official guidance.

6. Not Legal Advice

Nothing on this site is legal advice. For a specific legal question — for example, a citation, a charter-licensing question, or a liability matter — consult a licensed attorney in your state.

7. Accuracy and the Verification Caveat

We work to a strict human-verification standard — every regulation checked against the state agency, every license link confirmed, every embedded video watched. We are nevertheless an editorial publisher, not the agency. Rules change frequently and sometimes without notice.

Always confirm with the agency before relying on a specific rule

If a regulation on our site and the state agency’s own official page disagree, the agency’s page is authoritative. Tell us — we re-verify and update.

8. Third-Party Content and Links

The site links to and embeds content from state agencies, NOAA Fisheries, the U.S. Coast Guard, YouTube, and other third parties. We do not control those sites or videos and are not responsible for their content, availability, accuracy, or privacy practices. A link or embed is not an endorsement.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE U.S. LAW, we are not liable for any indirect, consequential, special, or incidental loss arising from your use of the site or your reliance on any content — specifically including but not limited to any citation, fine, injury, or loss arising from reliance on a regulation, season, or limit that had changed, from any fishing or boating activity, or from any technique shown in an embedded video. Aggregate liability to any user is capped at one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100).

Nothing in this Disclaimer or our Terms of Use limits any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable U.S. law — including liability for personal injury caused by gross negligence, fraud, or anything else state law preserves. Your statutory consumer-protection rights under your state’s UDAP statute are unaffected.
