Why another PDF may show lower numbers: the March 2026 regulations list base amounts such as $42.12 for a resident annual license and $121.26 for a nonresident annual license. The CPW public fee page adds the $1.25 and $1.50 surcharges, producing $44.87 and $124.01.
Boat Users: Do Not Confuse the ANS Stamp With a Fishing License
The Aquatic Nuisance Species stamp applies to qualifying motorboats and sailboats, not ordinary shore fishing. CPW lists the annual ANS stamp at $25 for resident motorboats and sailboats and $50 for nonresident vessels.

How to Buy a Colorado Fishing License Online
Prepare the buyer’s information before opening CPW Shop. The most expensive online mistake is creating a second customer profile or paying for a product under the wrong residency.
Find the Existing CPW Customer Record
A previous Colorado hunting, fishing, park or wildlife purchase may already have created a customer record and nine-digit CID. Search that profile before enrolling again.
Duplicate-account warning: a second profile can separate prior purchases, digital licenses and future transactions.
Confirm Residency and Age
Resident pricing is not based only on the address typed during checkout. Colorado generally requires the buyer to satisfy the six-month residency and identification rules.
Count Every Planned Fishing Day
Compare annual, five-day, one-day and additional-day products using the actual fishing dates. Do not buy only for the longest expected fishing day if the trip may start earlier.
Check the Habitat Stamp Before Checkout
For most customers ages 18–64, CPW adds one Habitat Stamp to the first qualifying fishing or hunting purchase of the license year. Confirm whether the buyer already has one.
Add a Second-Rod Stamp Only When Needed
The $14.24 stamp permits a second line where the fishing rules allow two rods. It does not override special-water rod limits or other method restrictions.

How to Renew a Colorado Fishing License
Colorado annual fishing licenses are tied to the state license year, not to a rolling 365-day period from the purchase date. Annual products go on sale March 1 and remain valid through March 31 of the following year.
Renewal Means Buying the New License-Year Product
Sign in to the existing customer account and select the current annual fishing product. Do not assume the expiration date on the old license automatically moves forward.
Previous annual license
The previous license-year product can remain valid through March 31. Check its printed year and expiration date.
New annual license
The next product becomes available March 1 and extends through March 31 of the next calendar year.

How to Print or Save Proof After Buying Online
“Print my Colorado fishing license” can mean three different things: printing the TAN, displaying an eligible digital license or obtaining a replacement physical license. Use the correct route instead of buying the full license again.

Temporary Authorization Number Rules
The TAN allows an eligible phone or internet customer to fish before receiving or picking up physical proof. Print it, write it down legibly and carry it while fishing.
Do not rely on an expired TAN. The regulations cap TAN use at 45 days from purchase, even when a mailed item has not arrived.

Use a Colorado Fishing License on Your Phone
The official myColorado instructions support qualifying resident fishing, small-game and fishing-and-small-game combination licenses. The page does not promise the same digital-wallet feature for every nonresident product.
Add an Eligible Resident License
- Download or update the official myColorado app.
- Create or sign in to the myColorado account.
- Open the Wallet.
- Select Colorado Parks and Wildlife Licenses.
- Select the fishing, small-game or combo license option.
- Enter the nine-digit CPW CID.
- Confirm the license holder and current status.
Offline Display
Once the supported CPW digital license has been added, myColorado says connectivity is not required to display it. License changes, cancellations, refunds or voids update when the phone reconnects.
Before entering the canyon: open the app, select the correct holder and confirm the active license while the phone still has service. Carry backup power when relying on a phone.
Nonresident and Unsupported Products
Nonresident anglers and buyers whose product does not appear in the app should carry the TAN, confirmation or physical proof accepted for that purchase. Do not treat a generic payment screenshot as a substitute for official license proof.

Colorado Resident, Nonresident, Youth and Senior Rules
Colorado’s Six-Month Residency Test
To claim resident pricing, CPW generally requires a valid Colorado driver license or Colorado identification card held for at least six months. The physical residence used for the wildlife purchase must match the address used for Colorado state income-tax purposes.
ID Issued or Renewed Less Than Six Months Ago
When the Colorado ID was issued or renewed less than six months earlier, CPW can require at least two sources showing six consecutive months of Colorado residence. Examples listed by CPW include pay records, utility bills, tax returns, leases, vehicle registration and voter registration.
Property-owner warning: owning Colorado property does not by itself establish resident eligibility.
Actions That Can End Colorado Residency
CPW warns that residency can end when a person obtains an out-of-state driver license, registers to vote elsewhere, moves away intending to establish another permanent home or accepts a resident hunting, fishing or trapping license from another jurisdiction.
Accepted Identification
CPW lists several possible photo IDs, including qualifying driver licenses, state IDs, U.S. passports, certain foreign passports, military IDs, tribal IDs and specified immigration documents. Out-of-state digital IDs are not accepted under the current list.

Rules the Online License Does Not Automatically Solve
Catch and Release Still Counts as Fishing
A person generally needs the appropriate license when fishing, not only when keeping fish. Releasing every fish does not create a general license exemption.

Second Rod Does Not Mean Every Water Allows Two Lines
The second-rod stamp gives the angler the additional privilege where lawful. Special waters can still restrict rods, tackle, bait, methods, seasons or harvest.
State Wildlife Area Access
Some State Wildlife Areas require a valid qualifying hunting or fishing license or an access pass for people age 16 or older. Check the specific property before driving because access, closures and permitted activities vary.
Free Fishing Weekend
Colorado’s 2026 Free Fishing Weekend occurred June 6–7, 2026. The fishing-license and Habitat Stamp requirements were waived for the event, but ordinary fishing regulations still applied. For a future trip, verify the newly announced dates rather than reusing the 2026 weekend.

The official lookup accepts an identifier, such as a prior license or CID, together with the date of birth. Use the original record rather than creating a fresh account merely because the login is forgotten.
