HuntFishPA provides customer-record searches using an existing customer number, driver’s license or identification record, or visa/passport information.
- Search the exact legal name used on the earlier license.
- Use the original birth date and identification details.

- Try an earlier ZIP code when the angler has moved.

Create a New Account Only for a True First-Time Customer
The new-customer screen asks whether the person previously purchased a Pennsylvania hunting, fishing or other HuntFishPA product. Answer that question accurately.
Private-information warning: enter identification, Social Security and payment information only on the official Pennsylvania government or HuntFishPA system—not on a guide, advertisement or unofficial “instant license” page.

How to Buy a Pennsylvania Fishing License Online
Define the Fishing Plan
Write down the angler’s age, residency, fishing date, target species, exact stream or lake and whether Lake Erie, Presque Isle Bay or a covered tributary is involved.

Submit Payment Once
Wait for the order result before pressing the payment button again. A slow page, pending bank authorization or delayed email does not prove that the first transaction failed.
Download and Check the Issued License
On the Order Receipt page, select Receipt and License Documents. Open the actual license PDF and verify the holder, year, Trout privilege and Lake Erie privilege.

Manual Renewal
Manual renewal is a new purchase for the eligible license year. Sign in to the existing account, select the new product, review permits and download the newly issued document.

- Check whether a current license is already active.

- Choose the correct current-year or multi-year product.
- Add current Trout or Lake Erie privilege when required.

Auto-Renewal During Checkout
Eligible products display an Auto Renew option. HuntFishPA instructs customers to read the disclosure, enable the slider for the desired product and provide the payment method that should be charged.
Thirty-Day Renewal Notice
HuntFishPA states that it sends an email approximately 30 days before an automatic payment showing the expected payment date and amount.
An email is not the new license. After the payment date, sign in and confirm that the license was successfully issued and can be downloaded.
Turn Auto-Renewal Off
- Sign in to the customer homepage.
- Open Manage Payments & Renewals.
- Find the product under Manage Your Auto Renewals.
- Move the Auto Renewal Enabled control to Off.
- Confirm and save the change.

Agent Replacement
The 2026 Fishing Summary lists a total cost of $6.97 for an issuing-agent replacement containing the base license and previously purchased permits or privileges printed on it.
Ask for a replacement—not a new cart. Repurchasing the base license and every permit can cost much more than reprinting or replacing the existing document.

Trout Permit, Lake Erie Permit or Combination?
When PFBC Treats a Person as Fishing for Trout
A current Trout Permit is required in several situations, including when an applicable angler:
- Takes, kills or possesses trout while fishing Pennsylvania or boundary waters.
- Fishes water managed under special trout regulations.
- Fishes Class A Wild Trout Waters or Wilderness Trout Streams and tributaries.
- Fishes covered stocked trout streams and rivers during the regulated spring period.
Catch-and-release can still require the permit. The classification of the water—not only whether a trout is kept—can trigger the requirement.
Lake Erie Permit Area
The permit applies to Pennsylvania waters of Lake Erie, Presque Isle Bay, listed main tributaries and waters that flow into those tributaries.
Main tributaries identified by PFBC include Cascade, Conneaut, Crooked, Eightmile, Elk, Fourmile, Mill, Raccoon, Sevenmile, Sixmile, Sixteenmile, Turkey, Twelvemile, Twentymile and Walnut creeks.

Choose the Combination When Both Privileges Apply
The $20.97 combination permit costs less than purchasing the $14.97 Trout Permit and $9.97 Lake Erie Permit separately.
One-day tourist shortcut: the $31.97 one-day tourist license already includes Trout and Lake Erie privileges. The three-day and seven-day tourist products do not.
2026 License Validity and One-Day Restrictions
2026 Annual License Period
Licenses purchased beginning December 1, 2025 for the 2026 season are valid immediately through December 31, 2026.
Early-purchase benefit: a 2026 annual license bought in December 2025 can provide up to 13 months of coverage.
One-Day Blackout
One-day resident and one-day tourist licenses cannot be used from March 15 through April 30. A one-day license issued for March 14 expires at 11:59 p.m. that day.
Do not force the wrong date into checkout. Select an eligible annual or tourist product for fishing during the blackout period.

On those dates, residents and nonresidents can fish Pennsylvania waters without the normal fishing license, Trout Permit or Lake Erie Permit. Seasons, limits, methods, access rules and closures still apply.
Senior, Student, Military and Veteran Online Help
Senior Resident Lifetime License
The $86.97 senior lifetime product covers the base fishing license, but it does not automatically settle every future Trout Permit question.
- A senior lifetime license issued before January 1, 1991 has a trout-permit exemption.
- Certain holders who bought senior lifetime and qualifying trout privilege before January 1, 2015 can have older grandfathered treatment.
- A person purchasing senior lifetime and trout privilege now generally needs a current Trout Permit when fishing for trout.
Out-of-State Pennsylvania Student
A full-time out-of-state student attending school in Pennsylvania does not become a Pennsylvania resident simply by attending school. The 2026 table lists a Nonresident PA Student annual product at $27.97.
Military Customers
Military residency and leave rules depend on Pennsylvania residency, assignment location, orders and leave status. Customers using a military exception should keep the required proof with them while fishing.
Disabled Veteran Licenses
The initial free or reduced disabled-veteran license must be processed through a PFBC office or county treasurer after eligibility verification. Later annual licenses may be available online or through an issuing agent.
Special eligibility should not be guessed in the cart. Contact PFBC before paying the regular price when the customer may qualify for a student, military, veteran, institutional or other special product.
Digital License, Printed Copy and Positive Identification
Anglers do not need to display the license on outer clothing. They must be able to provide the issued license in print or on a digital device when requested by an officer.
